Invitation to apply: CAPIm c/o Solastalgia Pangolin

CAPIm c/o Solastalgia Pangolin
– invitation to residency in May 2026

The Centre of Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm) is in collaboration with the artists Signe Johannessen and Erik Rören offering residency spaces in the new Solastagia Pangolin during the month of May 2026. Solastagia Pangolin is a sculpture, cabin and field hospital for the mind on the front lines of climate crises. In this project Johannessen and Rören have created a vessel to live in a changing nature – one that is intended to outlive the short-term project economy aggravating the climate crisis. The simple hut Solastagia Pangolin is made to, with maintenance, outlive us all. For this purpose, it will be owned by itself and easily transportable to the next place that invites it. Its early itinerary is already taking shape – it has, for example, been invited to Open Art in Örebro in the summer of 2026 and as a work in progress it was shown and used in connection to the conference for the European Society for Environmental History in Uppsala 2025. We at CAPIm are very happy to become part of the early history of Solastagia Pangolin through this residency program.

Practical Information:

Where is it:

Solastagia Pangolin will in May 2026 be placed in Mölnbo. It can be reached by a short walk from Mölnbo commuter train station.

Who can apply:

Students and staff at the two institutions where CAPIm is based: HDK-Valand and KKH as well as researchers connected to the fifteen centres of excellence of the Swedish Research Council.

How to apply:

Send a short letter of motivation to contact@capim.se no later than 10th of April.

Residency periods:

From one day to one week. Indicate your preferred dates of arrival in May and we will try to organize based on a first come first served principle.

How does the Solastagia Pangolin work:

It is a simple hut for staying in nature with basic amenities to sleep, cook, think and read (it has a library – a pharmacy for the mind created by CAPIm researcher Axel Andersson). It can house maximum two people at a time, but mostly suitable for a sole occupant.

Conditions:

It is free to use the residency, but residents finance their own travels to and from Solastagia Pangolin as well as food and other material they use. Students from HDK-Valand get their travels to and from Solastagia Pangolin covered by CAPIm.

Expectations:

Residents are expected to contribute their reflections tothe logg books in the library of the Solastagia Pangolin. A short symposium will be organised at the close of the period with voluntary participation (live or remote) by those who have held residencies.

Residents are expected to care for the space while using it and to ensure that all basic safety standards are respected. Each resident shares responsibility for maintaining the structure in good condition and for using it in a safe and considerate way.
