Of Public Interest (OPI) Lab: Open Door Session

Welcome to OPI Lab’s first Open Door Session of the semester 2024/25!

Open Door Session is a monthly format at OPI Lab’s storefront space in Gröndal, Stockholm. An evening where we open the door to share food, drinks and conversation with friends, neighbors, invited colleagues, and passersby.

This Thursday 3 October we are happy to welcome artist Meriç Algün who will join us for a reading from her recent text-based work, The Stepmother Violet. Rooted in personal experience, her fragmented narrative unfolds through poignant reflections that bear historical, linguistic, political associations in relation to the role of the stepmother amongst other things. Her text is part of a larger body of work which she is currently presenting at a solo exhibition at Lunds Konsthall.

Meriç Algün, born 1983 in Istanbul and currently lives and works in Stockholm. Permeating through a variety of media, Meriç Algün’s work concentrates on issues of identity, borders, bureaucracy and language. Selected solo exhibitions include Lunds Konsthall (2024); Magasin III Museum for Contemporary Art (2023); Spike Island, Bristol (2019); ARoS (2016); Kunstverein Freiburg (2015); Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2014); Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2013); Art in General, New York (2013) and Witte de With, Rotterdam (2012).
