Men/ding is durational installation performance, rooted in notions of physical and emotional labor. Sport acts as a container and wrestling/grappling as a vehicle for an embodied ethic of care and proximity.
Departing from the belief that “men are made” and must perform to realize themselves, I repurposed this ritual into a training camp. A situation where care and physical proximity are exercised. Violence and intimacy negotiated.
“Tokens of manhood stand still, witness. Time as presence but nevertheless distant. Suspended between nostalgia and gravity.”
