Av jord är du kommen
Someone found a trash bag filled with skeletal remains while clearing out a storage space at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. At first, they suspected it might be bone fragments from animals, but soon confirmed that they had discovered human remains. The bone fragments were carefully wrapped in silk paper and then placed in a chest in the Academy’s basement, where they still remain.
In the exhibition Av jord är du kommen, Swedish for “ashes to ashes”, the story of the people who disappeared is told, a forgotten narrative of violence and abuse in the name of science and art.
