Preventive Custody

Oscar Lara

Preventive Custody is the result of an ongoing investigation around the imprisonment systematization that the Peruvian government applies upon women who are victims of human trafficking in the amazon region of Peru. The project will collaborate with six women from the San Francisco de Asis jail (Regional jail part of the INPE – National Penitentiary Institute) who are in preventive custody because of human trafficking but who were victims of human trafficking themselves. We will experiment with new uses of Theatre for the Oppressed methods which will be facilitated by art therapist, Ricardo Galvez and a theatre director and a script writer. The aim is to provide this human group with the necessary tools for them to create a theatre script. They will have full control over the content and we will help by providing training for them to recognize a potential history that they might want to transform into a script. (2021)
