By invitation from Carl Michael von Hausswolff, musicians, sound artists and students from the Royal Institute of Art and Ecole du Mont Cotton (in France) are participating in the newly produced, collective sound work freq_spark (four corners). It will be presented as a composition of four digital sound mixers, an interactive installation which can be accessed and operated on the world wide web.
In 2002, the pioneering sound artist and composer Carl Michael von Hausswolff initiated the freq series thematising co-creation of sounds, environmentalism, and multisensoric energies. The ever-evolving work has been exhibited at institutions such as Stedelijk (Amsterdam) TBA21 (Vienna, Venice), Nuit Blanche (Paris), Moderna Museet (Stockholm) and the Marrakech Biennale.
Freq_spark is based on a series of lectures and workshops for students at the Royal Institute of Art preceding a new formulation of the freq series. Reflecting fire and deforestation, burning questions of current politics of environmental rights, freq_spark comprises a multitude of sound waves (or flames) created by artists from a wide range of experimental practices.
A concert and a launching event will take place at Rutiga Golvet on Friday, 31 march, 16.30. The Royal Institute of Art is pleased to invite everyone to celebrate together with many of the artists. After the event, the website of freq_spark will be launched globally on http://bilting.se/freq_spark/.
Carl Michael von Hausswolff and the Royal Institute of Art would like to thank all contributing artists, Ulf Bilting [web maestro], Ecole du Mont Cotton (Bagnols-sur Cèze) and Ocean Archive/TBA21–Academy.
