Restoration art
Introduction
Architecture and the built environment are part of a physical heritage left by previous generations. The places and spaces we inhabit for a short period of time shape our identity and anchor us in a cultural and social context. Managing this heritage means that we have a great responsibility to ensure that valuable and unique environments are left for the future to interpret and use. Architecture and the built environment are an invaluable resource from a social, cultural and economic point of view, which we are called upon to manage with great care over the long term.
What defines a cultural heritage? What values and decisions underlie its selection? Restoration art involves the architectural and artistic practice of making visible, describing and developing cultural heritage so that it can endure and be strengthened over time. Cultural heritage is fragile, and preserving it for posterity requires specific knowledge, both practical and theoretical, and well-considered decisions. The essence of restoration art is to synthesize different knowledge and to master processes in an increasingly complex and expanding world. Restoration art shines a light on the existing building stock and involves the reuse of already built material. It is therefore a key to sustainable development.
The Restoration art course is a one-year advanced level course. It provides cutting-edge expertise for professionals in the field of architecture and the built environment. Rebuilding culture
Introduction
What does the sustainable city look like? Does it exist and what demands does it need to meet? What are the relevant questions to ask in a time of transition? Rebuilding culture examines and critically reflects on how post-war architecture can contribute to a sustainable future. Urban development is a complex process, and rather than linear, it can be seen as a cluster of creative processes connecting unexpected points. Historically, cities have grown out of place and have had a close relationship with the local climate and landscape. In urban environments, modernity and globalization have distanced people from these conditions. Rebuilding culture applies the analytical models of restoration art in a modified form to post-war buildings.
The Rebuilding culture course is a one-year full-time advanced level course. It provides cutting-edge expertise to professionals already working in the entire field of architecture and the built environment. A holistic approach to the subject of rebuilding culture is conveyed, and the course examines the broad building stock as a resource and engine for sustainable social development.
