Qualifications for the Master’s programme
In order to be admitted to a second cycle university programme, previous studies at the basic level (Bachelor of Fine Arts) are required. Those who do not have the formal education required by our programmes can refer to prior learning. The prior learning must demonstrate knowledge equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. This can be, for example, own artistic work in combination with a bachelor’s degree in another artistic subject. It is up to the applicant to submit the documents that the Royal Institute of Art (Kungl. Konsthögskolan) will consider. More information about prior learning is available from the Swedish Council for Higher Education. Assessment of prior learning is only made for applicants who are considered to have special entry requirements and thus proceed to Selection. See special entry requirements below.
Special entry requirements
In addition to basic entry requirements, our programmes require special entry requirements. Special entry requirements for our programmes in fine arts is based on an assessment of submitted work samples. Only those who are deemed to meet the special entry requirements in the current application round will be reviewed for basic entry requirements (in cases where a manual review is required).
Fees
Studies at the Royal Institute of Art (Kungl. Konsthögskolan) are free of charge for Swedish citizens and citizens of countries in the EU, EEA or Switzerland.
Students who are nationals of a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland must pay registration fee when applying and tuition fee for studying. The registration fee is SEK 900 and may be applied toward one or more application choices. Read more here.
The tuition fee at the Royal Institute of Art is currently SEK 347 778 per academic year. Foreign students are to contact the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) to obtain a residence permit for the duration of your studies. the Royal Institute of Art has a scholarship to apply for the Master’s programme in Fine Art. The scholarship covers only the tuition fee, not living expenses and travel. You indicate that you want to apply for the scholarship when you upload your work samples.
